Arsenal have chance to 'make a dynasty' under Arteta, says Guimaraes

Bruno Guimaraes believes that Arsenal are about to enter a golden period under Mikel Arteta, saying the Gunners boss wants to "make a dynasty" at the Emirates Stadium. 

Guimaraes completed his reported £70m transfer to Arsenal from Newcastle United earlier this month after spending four successful years under Eddie Howe on Tyneside. 

The 28-year-old's arrival has further improved Arsenal's midfield, with Martin Odegaard, Myles Lewis-Skelly, Declan Rice, Martin Zubimendi, Mikel Merino and Eberechi Eze also options for Arteta to consider.

Arsenal ended their 22-year wait to win the Premier League title last season, and have already added quality to their squad with the signings of Ezri Konsa and Christos Tzolis. 

Illan Meslier has also joined the club, while Piero Hincapie's move from Bayer Leverkusen has been made permanent, and Arsenal have already made a strong start to 2026-27. 

After sweeping aside Manchester City 3-0 in the Community Shield, the Gunners beat Coventry City in their Premier League opener by the same scoreline, with Kai Havertz, Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard all on target. 

It was Arsenal's joint-biggest win when opening a Premier League campaign at home, along with another 3-0 victory in the 1994-95 season, and Guimaraes believes his new team are ready to challenge on all fronts this season. 

"Since the first time I spoke to him [Arteta], he wants to make a dynasty here, trying to win everything as possible and I am always very excited of his idea," Guimaraes said in an interview with the Men In Blazers network on YouTube.

"Everything is very new for me, and I am just trying to get used to the players, to the manager, to the staff, the way he works.

"I can say that I am still finding my best way in the group, but I love it [here]."

Guimaraes' signing does not only add depth to Arsenal's midfield, but also quality. 

Prior to the new campaign starting, Guimaraes has won more duels (1,030) and fouls (410) than any other player in the Premier League since making his debut in the competition in February 2022, while the only midfielder to cover more distance than the Brazilian (1,641km) is new midfield partner Declan Rice (1,703). 

Guimaraes also brings quality in attack. Only Mohamed Salah (94.5%) and Dejan Kulusevski (94.6%) have created a higher share of their chances from open play in the Premier League than his 92.5% among players with a minimum of 200 chances created in the competition since his debut. 

And he is willing to play in any position within Arsenal's midfield to try and be a mainstay during his first campaign under Arteta's guidance. 

"I can play every position in the midfield, but this just depends on Mikel's ideas," the Brazilian added. 

"He said to me that I can play everywhere, and I said yes, it just depends on you and where he wanted me to play. I am just ready to play for Arsenal, no matter where.

"I don't have like one target – we go for everything. I think the potential we have in this team is unbelievable.

"I don't want to set targets, we need to think about the game again and let's see how far we can go, but with this team, I have a big chance of winning trophies."
