Iraola is preparing for his first Premier League game in charge of the Reds this weekend as they travel to Newcastle United.

The former Bournemouth boss took over after Arne Slot was sacked at the end of last season and has seen a few new additions to his squad, although not on the scale of last year's big-spending window.

Jeremy Jacquet's deal is now officially over the line, after Liverpool reached an agreement with Rennes in February, while Victor Munoz is also a permanent signing. Ronald Araujo has joined on loan from Barcelona.

But Iraola has confirmed business is not done yet, with over a week still to go until the window closes.

"We'll definitely sign players, yes," he said.

"I hope more than one. The thing is, as a coach, selfishly, I want the players for the first day of pre-season, so everyone is ready to go, but also, I understand how this works.

"Some days you have to wait until the end. The important picture is the one we have on September 1, and I hope, because it's true that we are still quite thin, that we can have more help from here until the end of the market."

One of the players Liverpool has been linked with is Brighton and Hove Albion's Yankuba Minteh, with the Reds reportedly seeing a £50 million ($95.1 million) bid rejected.

Minteh joined Brighton in 2024 and has since made 73 appearances in all competitions, but Hurzeler, while not mentioning the midfielder by name, hinted at those rumours in his own press conference.

"There are rumours about the important players for us because they were a big part of the journey the last two years, but in football you all have to understand that it's normal if you're successful as a team," Hurzeler said.

"If the team is doing well, there's some good achievements, then the individual can shine and then of course there will be a big ask for players.

"That's part of our identity; that's part of my job here.

"We also know that good achievements, big achievements, especially in the Premier League, you create offers, you create a lot of attention, and so, therefore, we have to wait now."

Iraola’s first match sees him travel to Newcastle as Liverpool look to put last season's disappointment to bed and start the 2026-2027 campaign strongly.

Liverpool has not lost any of its past nine Premier League games at St. James' Park, and is unbeaten in its first Premier League match in the past 13 seasons.

But it struggled on the road last term, losing nine away games, form which Iraola will be keen to turn around quickly.

"This is Liverpool; they are not going to wait 10 games until this gets going," Iraola said.

"I know these demands, and I want to think we are going to be probably not 100% on Sunday, but good enough to get results.

"Whenever we arrive is not the end point. We will need to keep improving, and football is always like this.

"The things that you are doing are not enough anymore, so you have to do something extra, and you have to do something better and quicker, and this is the evolution.

"How fast we will arrive to certain points... I think the quicker we understand things, the more complete as a team we can be.

"We can change things live in games; we don't want to wait until half-time to change things because, if you are ready, everyone understands, you can just do three things, and then we change the approach.

"Sometimes I love it when players come to me, and they tell me ‘No, they are doing this, I think we should do this' – that's the moment where you think 'OK, now we are getting it, we are there'."
