Cozier-Duberry stunner gives Bolton the edge
A quality winner from Amario Cozier-Duberry has given Bolton Wanderers the edge in its EFL League One play-off semi-final with Bradford City, helping it to win the first leg 1-0 at home.
Cozier-Duberry produced a stunning finish to put the hosts ahead on the hour after a first half that had seen several chances squandered by both sides.
Bradford started the brighter in a typically tense play-off encounter, and Antoni Sarcevic might have had the visitors ahead in the ninth minute when he broke clear into the box and put a shot on target, but Chris Forino-Joseph raced from nowhere to block it superbly.
Bolton had a good chance from a corner in the 14th minute, but the teams went into the break goalless after a relatively uneventful first period.
The second half was barely three minutes old when referee Martin Coy was forced off with an injury, and after a lengthy delay to allow the fourth official to suit up and replace him, Sarcevic again found himself with an opportunity for Bradford, but blasted his shot off target. in the 54th minute.
That miss proved costly when Ibrahim Cissoko broke forward down the left, sweeping a cross over to Cozier-Duberry on the opposite side of the pitch, and with time to settle, he finished with aplomb, curling the ball into the far side of Sam Walker's goal as he could only watch helplessly.
Cozier-Duberry might have double the lead and his own tally just minutes later when he pounced on a giveaway on the edge of the box, but his shot hit the far post this time, and rolled agonisingly across the goal line and out for a goal-kick.
Wanderers finished by far the stronger of the two teams, but couldn't add to the scoreline, leaving the two sides with all to play for next week when they convene for the second leg.
