Aussie Robertson hails Lawlor partnership
Australia international midfielder Alex Robertson hailed the growing partnership between he and viral wonder goal-scorer Dylan Lawlor after the star Cardiff City pair combined to sink Doncaster over the weekend.
Robertson opened the scoring for the bluebirds, latching onto Lawlor's precise assist to put promotion-chasing Cardiff up 1-0.
Lawlor then turned scorer with one of the goals of the season, picking the ball up deep in his own half and embarking on a slalom run through the Rovers defence, before finishing coolly to double his side's advantage.
Cian Ashford and Callum Roinson rounded out the scoring, as Cardiff moved one point clear of Lincoln at the top of League One.
"I said to Dylan about ten minutes earlier, look for that pass in behind, because the centre back was following Rubin, when Rubin would drop in," Robertson said of his goal. "So I said to him, play it in behind, and about ten minutes later, he played it.
"I just chested it and hit it over the keeper, I think it was. It was identical to the one against Exeter, and Dylan played that one too, so it shows what a good passer of the ball he is, and it's nice to run onto them balls."
Robertson, a Manchester United youth product who previously enjoyed stints at Ross County and Portsmouth on loan from neighbouring Manchester City, will be hoping to add to his two caps for the Socceroos, having played an instrumental role in Cardiff's promotion campaign.
For now, he's not getting too far ahead of himself.
"To get the three points is the main thing. I thought it was a great performance all round. It wasn't an easy game, but we played really well and it was really nice to see.
"We've got to stay humble and keep trying to win game by game - that's all we can do."
