Grimaldo joins Atleti from Bayer Leverkusen
Atletico Madrid confirmed the signing of Alejandro Grimaldo from Bayer Leverkusen in a deal reportedly worth €20m.
Grimaldo has had a stellar stint at Leverkusen, playing a key role in its 2023-2024 Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal double under Xabi Alonso.
The full-back, who is part of Spain's World Cup squad, joined Leverkusen from Benfica in 2023.
Since the start of the 2023-2024 campaign, Grimaldo has registered 71 goal involvements, which is 20 more than any other defender across Europe's top five leagues in all competitions.
He has also scored nine direct free-kick goals in the past three seasons, which is more than any other player in Europe's top five leagues.
Grimaldo will return to his home nation ahead of next season, with Atleti signing the 30 year-old on a contract until 2030.
