Joao Pedro withdraws from Brazil squad

  • Joao Pedro has withdrawn from Brazil's squad for the upcoming international break due to injury.

The Chelsea forward was named in Carlo Ancelotti's new-look Selecao squad, which features plenty of new and younger faces after its round-of-16 World Cup exit.

Joao Pedro missed out on the World Cup squad, with reports suggesting he was the player to make way for Neymar, but the 24 year-old has impressed for the Blues this season.

He has scored three goals and provided three assists in Chelsea's first four Premier League games of the campaign, leading the competition for direct goal contributions.

Joao Pedro became just the third player in Premier League history to both score and assist in three of the first four matchdays to start a season.

Fluminense's Matheus Martinelli has replaced Joao Pedro in Ancelotti's squad to face Australia and India in the upcoming break, while the latter is now expected to miss Chelsea's trip to Brentford on Saturday.
