Espanyol have moved swiftly to appoint Eder Sarabia as their new head coach through to June 2028.
Sarabia named as Gonzalez's successor at Espanyol
Espanyol's shock Copa del Rey loss to fourth-tier Sestao has prompted a change in management, with Eder Sarabia replacing Manolo Gonzalez.
The club sacked Manolo Gonzalez on Tuesday, following their shock Copa del Rey first-round exit at the hands of fourth-tier Sestao, who won 4-3 after extra time.
They have also struggled in LaLiga, currently sitting 18th after 10 matches with just eight points (W2 D2 L4), failing to win any of their last five (D1 L4).
And it is Sarabia who has been tasked with turning things around for the club.
Sarabia was most recently in charge of Elche, for whom he secured LaLiga safety on the final day of last season thanks to a 1-1 draw with Girona before announcing his shock exit.
He spent just one season in LaLiga – with Elche – during his managerial career, winning just 10 of his 38 matches in the competition (D13 L15) to leave him with a 26.3% win rate.
Sarabia, who is also a former assistant coach at Barcelona, is not set to be in the dugout against Villarreal on Friday, as he will be officially presented next Tuesday.
