Coventry snatches late winner against Stoke
Jack Rudoni scored a last-gasp winner as Coventry City moved eight points clear at the top of the EFL Championship with a 2-1 win over Stoke City.
Haji Wright nodded home to put Frank Lampard's side in front after 12 minutes, with Stoke goalkeeper Tommy Simkin frequently called into action as Coventry pushed for more.
However, Ben Gibson pulled the visitors level in the fourth minute of first-half stoppage-time with their only shot on target in the match.
Simkin continued to keep Coventry at bay until Rudoni punished him for a terrible attempted clearance to earn a fourth win on the bounce for the league leader.
Rudoni has now scored in his past three Championship games, which could prove to be very important in the race for top spot.
Coventry was dominant throughout against Stoke, racking up 20 shots, of which eight were on target.
Rudoni scored with the final effort of the game, earning Coventry consecutive home wins over Stoke for the first time since December 1982.
"Not every day is like this and you have to enjoy the moment when it comes," Lampard said after the full-time whistle.
"I enjoyed it today because I loved our performance – it was so, so good throughout the game that if we hadn't have got what we deserved it would have been a travesty."
Potters coach Mark Robins somewhat concurred with the assessment of his opponent.
"We didn't deserve anything because we were really poor," he admitted.
"We didn't get going in the first half, I thought we didn't get close enough to them, we didn't get any real contact on them and we gave them the freedom of the park to be fair.
"In the second half we were much better. And when it gets to the stage that it did, you just have to see the game out."
