Wolves devour Port Vale in Carabao Cup opener
Wolverhampton Wanderers handed new boss Cesar Peixoto his first win in charge of the EFL Championship side as it beat EFL League Two opponent Port Vale 3-0 in the first round of the Carabao Cup.
Wolves went ahead early through Adam Armstrong, scoring in the 14th minute, before Andre and Fer Lopez made it 3-0 before the break.
Port Vale had the chance to peg back the home side early in the second half when it was awarded a penalty in the 56th minute.
But Mo Faal struck a tame effort too close to Wolves goalkeeper Dan Bentley, who parried the shot away to safety to maintain his side's clean sheet.
Wolves will take the confidence of this win into their first game of the EFL Championship season next weekend, when they will face Blackburn Rovers at Molineux and begin the campaign to get back to the Premier League after relegation at the end of last season.
Port Vale, meanwhile, will look to get things off to a better start in its EFL League Two opener against Oldham Athletic.
