Oar seals Europe return with APOEL
Australia international Tommy Oar will return to Europe after leaving Brisbane Roar to sign for reigning Cypriote champion APOEL FC.
APOEL reportedly triggered Oar's $514,772 release clause on Monday, allowing the 25 year-old to fly to Cypress to agree personal terms.
The 25 year-old previously enjoyed a fruitful spell in Europe with Eredivisie side FC Utrecht, before returning to the A-League for a second stint with Brisbane Roar after struggling with EFL side Ipswich Town.
Brisbane Roar confirmed the news on Wednesday, and thanked the winger for his contribution to the club last season.
“On behalf of the Club, I’d like to wish Tommy the best of luck with the next chapter of his career,” Roar manager John Aloisi said.
“To join such a successful European side is an exciting opportunity for Tommy. “He has been a pleasure to coach, and we will follow his progress with great interest.”
Oar has 34 caps for the Socceroos, and will be hoping to regain his place with the national team with the move abroad.
