Jürgen Klopp on Mohamed Salah's injury: "If Egypt qualifies, he'll be back for AFCON 2023"
This Sunday, January 21, after Liverpool secured their Premier League lead with a 4-0 win against Bournemouth, German coach Jürgen Klopp spoke to the media about the injury to Egyptian star Mohamed Salah, his recovery, return timeline, and more.
The Egyptian Pharaoh suffered a hamstring injury during the 2-2 draw between Egypt and Ghana in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, leading to his substitution and immediate attention.
Following this, Jürgen Klopp revealed today, "He will return to Liverpool for treatment, that's the plan. I don't know if it's 100% decided, but it makes sense for him to undergo rehabilitation with us." Thus, Salah would return to Liverpool to address the injury and recover as soon as possible.
"If Egypt reaches the final and he is recovered earlier, he will probably return to the squad and play in AFCON 2023 with Egypt. Why not?" stated the German coach about the possibility of Egypt's captain and star player making a comeback in the current AFCON 2023 campaign.
Meanwhile, Salah will miss at least the next two matches for his national team in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations: the final group stage match against Cape Verde and the round of 16, with the possibility of returning for hypothetical quarter-finals.
