Schmiedlova overcomes McHale, Goerges out in Korea
Second seed Anna Karolina Schmiedlova survived a second set wobble to beat Christina McHale in three sets at the Korea Open.
Anna Karolina Schmiedlova remains on course for her third WTA title of 2015 thanks to a battling victory over Christina McHale at the Korea Open.
The Slovakian – seeded second for the tournament – has already tasted success in Katowice and Bucharest this season and booked her quarter-final place in Seoul with a 6-2 4-6 6-3 win.
After a shaky start, Schmiedlova won six successive games to take the opening set and, although she allowed McHale to level, the world number 31 finished strongly with four in a row to take the match.
She will meet fifth seed Mona Barthel in the last eight after she cruised past Mariana Duque Marino in straight sets, the German needing less than an hour to seal her 6-2 6-1 win.
Alison Van Uytvanck is also through to the next round after she put a disappointing second set behind her to beat Katerina Siniakova 6-3 1-6 7-6 (7-3).
There was less fortune for seventh seed Julia Goerges, though, as she was beaten in straight sets by Johanna Larsson, the Swede cruising to a 7-5 6-4 triumph.
