Pospisil ends drought with Topshelf win
Canada's Vasek Pospisil returned to winning ways on grass at the Topshelf Open, having endured an unremarkable clay-court campaign.
Vasek Pospisil claimed his first win in over two months by opening his Topshelf Open campaign with a straight-sets win over Marinko Matosevic.
The Canadian, seeded ninth, saw off Matosevic in just 62 minutes on the grass in 's-Hertogenbosch, prevailing 6-3 6-2.
The win ended a four-match losing streak that dated back to the Miami Masters in March.
"It was a good match," Pospisil said. "I felt like I played well throughout the whole match. I executed my game plan well. I was serving well, which is obviously crucial on this surface.
"There were maybe a few nerves at the end there, but overall I'm really happy and pleased with the way I played. I served well and I played aggressive on the return games, which I think was key to taking those opportunities."
Gilles Muller will be Pospisil's opponent after he swept to a 6-0 7-5 success against Marsel Ilhan.
Meanwhile, Robin Haase knocked down 11 aces as he overcame Blaz Kavcic 6-2 7-5 and Marius Copil emerged victorious in his match with Jarkko Nieminen, the Romanian coming through 6-3 2-6 6-4.
