Pavlyuchenkova conquers Friedsam to take Linz title
The unseeded Anna-Lena Friedsam failed to win her first WTA final as Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova triumphed in straight sets.
Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova claimed her first WTA title of the year by beating Anna-Lena Friedsam in the final of the Generali Ladies Linz.
There was to be no dream victory for Friedsam in her first WTA final, as favourite Pavlyuchenkova won 6-4 6-3 in Austria on Sunday.
A solitary break in the first game of the first set and a further three in the second ensured seventh seed Pavlyuchenkova came out on top.
Pavlyuchenkova seized the initiative immediately as Friedsam failed to hold serve in the opening game of the match and the 21-year-old German was unable to force a single break point to give herself a chance of forcing her way back into the set.
Friedsam got the upper hand in the second set, though, winning her first break point of the match to lead 2-0, but that was as good as it got for the world number 118.
Pavlyuchenkova was in no mood to hang around as she won the next four games and then needed just two match points to add another trophy to her cabinet.
