Third seed Garbine Muguruza is confident the foot injury that ruled her out of the Brisbane International is fully healed ahead of the Australian Open.

The Spaniard was forced to withdraw from the opening tournament of 2016 halfway through her second-round match with Varvara Lepchenko, retiring after receiving treatment on court.

Muguruza has not played since that early exit on January 6, but has been able to train ahead of her first match in Melbourne against Estonia's Anett Kontaveit.

"My foot is good," she said. "I had time to recover from Brisbane. 

"I needed a couple of days to rest, [but] yeah, it's improving."

Many have predicted Muguruza - under the guidance of coach Sam Sumyk - could go far in this year's tournament after being placed in the bottom half of the draw, but the 22-year-old knows reaching the latter stages will be tough.

She added: "There is no recipe [for success]. I mean, I come here as prepared as possible.

"[But] after the pre-season, everybody's fit here."
