Kerber and Jankovic set for Hong Kong showdown
Former world number one Jelena Jankovic will take on Angelique Kerber in the final of the Hong Kong Open on Sunday.
Angelique Kerber will face Jelena Jankovic in the Hong Kong Open final on Sunday knowing a victory will be enough to book her place in the WTA Finals after the German eased past Samantha Stosur in the semi-finals.
Kerber has won four titles in an impressive year and is on the verge of being rewarded for her exploits with a spot in the season-ending showpiece in Singapore.
The second seed, currently fifth in the Road to Singapore, took only an hour and 11 minutes to oust Australian Stosur 6-2 6-2.
World number nine Kerber broke Stosur five times and the fifth seed could only secure one break of her own to end her hopes of winning a third title of the year.
Kerber broke twice to surge into a 5-1 lead and won her third set point to take the opener, then cashed in on Stosur's troubles on serve to secure another three breaks in the second.
Stosur showed some fight to save four match points, but Kerber finished off the job to set up a showdown with Jankovic.
Venus Williams knew she would feature in Singapore by reaching the final in Hong Kong but was second best in the battle of two former number ones, as Jankovic triumphed 6-4 7-5.
Williams had her chances, but could only convert two of 16 break points as a determined Jankovic kept alive her hopes of winning a second title of the year.
Jankovic secured a solitary break in the first set as she frustrated Williams with a battling display, going on to break another three times in the second to seal a straight-sets victory.
