Federer not focused on fight for top spot
Seven-time Wimbledon champion Roger Federer is solely focused on another win at the All England Club and not his world ranking.
Roger Federer is not concerned with overtaking Novak Djokovic as world number one.
Federer, ranked number two in the world, will go into Wimbledon with an eighth Gerry Weber Open title to his name following a 7-6 (7-1) 6-4 win over Andreas Seppi in Sunday's final.
Djokovic is over 4000 points ahead of Federer in the rankings, but Federer is purely focused on his preparations for Wimbledon, which sees the Swiss go after an eight title at the All England Club when play begins a week on Monday.
"It's pretty simple in some ways. The way Novak's playing or the way the ranking system is set up, it's all about winning the grand slams in terms of the points," Federer said.
"There's just that many points at the winners level of the slams. That will be the case. That's not my number one focus right now. We're too far away from it.
"Things can obviously change very quickly in the second half of the season. I've got tonnes of points to defend myself but if you do win slams then clearly you're going to go closer, and if you don't win them you go further away from the world number one.
"It's pretty simple. My focus is just on being happy on winning here going into Wimbledon and take one tournament at a time and not think too far ahead."
Asked about his performance in Halle, Federer added: "I think one big secret on grass is when to hit which shot and playing the score the right way.
"You might be playing perfect but then in one moment you take a bad decision and grass makes you pay for it all. So, this week has been great if I look at the whole thing. I don't think I got broken the last four matches I played.
"The first match was extremely close but I won all the tie-breaks this week, which gives me big confidence knowing that in the crucial moments my game was right there."
