Dominant Federer leads the way in Paris
Former champion Roger Federer made short work of his opening match at the Paris Masters as he cruised past Andreas Seppi in straight sets.
Roger Federer wasted no time in dispatching Andreas Seppi to make a confident start at the Paris Masters, the 2011 winner easing to a 6-1 6-1 win in just 47 minutes.
Seppi had only ever beaten the Swiss once in their previous 13 meetings and he never looked like adding to that tally as Federer rattled off four successive games at the start of both sets in the French capital on Wednesday.
The world number two was in complete control of their rallies, and easily picked off his Italian opponent to book a clash with John Isner.
Isner only dropped eight points on his serve against Aljaz Bedene, and with the help of 21 aces he cruised into the third round 6-3 7-6 (7-3).
Another former winner Tomas Berdych had a tougher start to his campaign as Edouard Roger-Vasselin took him to three sets, but eventually the fifth seed - who served six double faults - prevailed 6-3 4-6 7-5.
He will meet the third champion in action on Wednesday – Jo-Wilfried Tsonga – next after the Frenchman broke twice in either set against Roberto Bautista-Agut.
Tsonga, the ninth seed, saved all three break chances on his own serve in the match before serving out to love to secure a 6-2 6-2 success.
Rafael Nadal continued to show his top form is slowly returning as he only dropped four games on his way to a 6-2 6-2 victory against Lukas Rosol.
Nadal's comeback from injury has taken longer than he would have liked, however the seventh seed once again showed glimpses of quality with his stunning forehand as Rosol was swept aside.
Next up is 11th seed Kevin Anderson, who overcame Dominic Thiem 6-7 (3-7) 7-6 (7-4) 7-6 (7-5).
Second seed Andy Murray is also into the last 16 following a thoroughly professional demolition of Borna Coric, his 65th win of 2015 coming in just under an hour.
Murray had lost to the young Croat in Dubai earlier this year but never looked in trouble in Paris, winning 20 of his 22 points on serve as he triumphed 6-1 6-2.
David Goffin is next for Murray after he beat Dusan Lajovic 6-2 6-2 in 58 minutes.
Sixth seed Kei Nishikori had to withstand a barrage of aces from Jeremy Chardy before sealing a 7-6 (7-4) 6-7 (6-8) 6-1 win, setting up a meeting with Richard Gasquet who eased past Leonardo Mayer 6-2 7-5.
Meanwhile, David Ferrer is next up for Grigor Dimitrov after the Bulgarian beat Marin Cilic 7-6 (7-3) 7-6 (7-2), and Viktor Troicki came from a set down to fend off 15th seed Feliciano Lopez 6-7 (7-9) 7-5 6-4.
