Napoli 2 Sassuolo 0 - Match Report
Lorenzo Insigne stunner seals all three points for Napoli
Napoli stayed in second place in Serie A with a routine 2-0 victory over Sassulo on Sunday evening.
With just two minutes on the clock, Adam Ounas latched onto a mistake from the Sassulo backline and emphatically smashed the ball past Andrea Consigli to give the Neapolitans an early lead.
Napoli continued to push for a second with Dries Mertens & Piotr Zieliński missing two guilt edge chances in quick succession. It wasn’t all Napoli in the first half, and Sassulo midfielder Filip Đuričić saw his long-distance strike quickly parried by David Ospina.
Into the second half, goalscorer Ounas could have had a second, however his driving run and shot hit the side of the net. As the second half developed Sassulo grew in confidence and peppered the Napoli goal with shots, thankfully Ospina was on form to deny the away side an equalizer.
Substitute Lorenzo Insigne put the game beyond doubt with a goal of real class twenty minutes from time. Picking the ball up from the outside of the box the Italian international unleashed a curling effort that perfectly nestled into the top right corner. A moment of magic fully deserving to win the game.
Sassulo tried to find their way back into the match, but Ospina was inspired with a host of saves to deny the visitors. Rogério saw red for a rash tackle on Callejón, but it was too late for the side from Modena. The win keeps Napoli in second place six points behind leaders Juventus going into the international break.
