O'Connell criticises Ireland discipline
Despite a comfortable win over Canada to start the Rugby World Cup, Paul O'Connell was not fully pleased with Ireland's performance.
Paul O'Connell called on Ireland to improve their discipline following their 50-7 win over Canada at the Rugby World Cup.
Joe Schmidt's men opened their campaign with a straightforward success, running in seven tries at the Millennium Stadium on Saturday.
Canada had fleeting moments of pressure, one of which came at the start of the second half after captain O'Connell had been sent to the sin bin for intercepting a pass from an offside position.
And the lock said: "I don't think we started as we wanted to. Once we settled down I thought we handled the ball well and played some really good rugby.
"You want to cut down on errors and not turn over the ball. We did that a little in the two warm-up games. I know we did a little bit at the start.
"We got into a little bit of a rhythm before half-time and after a shaky start played some good rugby.
"I think discipline is important to every team. You don't want to give teams access into the game with penalties.
"I think we had a period just after half-time when we did that and that was disappointing."
