Hamilton's Shanghai love affair continues - Chinese Grand Prix in numbers
After a disappointing season opener in Australia, Mercedes and Lewis Hamilton were back to winning ways at the Chinese Grand Prix.
Lewis Hamilton's love affair with the Chinese Grand Prix continued on Sunday as he kept Sebastian Vettel at bay to take the chequered flag by six seconds.
Having claimed the 63rd pole of his career on Saturday, Hamilton eased to his first win of 2017 and a record fifth in Shanghai.
The victory enhanced the Briton's reputation as one of Formula One's greats as he moved closer to Michael Schumacher in a number of different areas.
Max Verstappen produced a stunning drive to drag himself from 19th on the grid to the final podium place, but there was more misery for Fernando Alonso in the unreliable McLaren.
Here, with the help of Opta stats, we look at some of the significant developments following Sunday's action at the second race of the season.
- For third year in a row, Fernando Alonso failed to finish the opening two races of the season
- Lewis Hamilton has the most wins (5), poles (6) and podiums (8) at the Chinese Grand Prix.
- Only Michael Schumacher (142) has lead more races than Lewis Hamilton (101) in the Formula 1 history.
- Schumacher (40) is the only driver to claim pole and the race victory on more occasions than Hamilton (33) in Formula 1 history.
- Hamilton equalled Alain Prost with 106 podiums in Formula 1, only Schumacher (155) has more.
- Hamilton has claimed eight podiums at Shanghai, more than at any other Grand Prix.
- The Mercedes driver now has 11 consecutive seasons with at least one win, a record only bettered by Schumacher (15).
