Murray's sweatband fetches £2,100 for charity
A sweat-drenched wristband that Andy Murray hit royalty with during Wimbledon has been auctioned off for charity.
Andy Murray has helped raise £2,100 for charity after a sweatband that he threw into the Wimbledon crowd and hit the Duchess of Cornwall with was put up for auction.
After seeing off Robin Haase in the second round at the All England Club, Murray celebrated in traditional style by throwing items of his equipment into the crowd.
However, Murray's aim was off as he threw his sweatband – which ended up hitting All England Club chairman, Phillip Brook, who was entertaining the Duchess.
An amused Brook promptly gave the sweat-soaked wristband to the Duchess, who placed it in her purse.
Murray laughed off the incident after the game, but has raised further cheer, selecting the Royal Veterinary College Animal Care Trust as the organisation to benefit from the sale, which was completed on auctioneering site eBay on Monday.
