Senatore given 10-week ban for biting
Jaguares' back-row forward Leonardo Senatore has been handed a 10-week suspension for biting Sharks' Keegan Daniel.
SANZAAR has hit Jaguares' Leonardo Senatore with a 10-week ban after finding him guilty of biting an opponent - his second suspension for such an offence.
Following a judicial hearing, the back-row forward was deemed to have breached "Law 10.4 (m) Acts contrary to good sportsmanship – Biting" for an incident involving Sharks' Keegan Daniel.
During the 69th minute of Sharks' 25-22 Super Rugby win on Saturday, the pair were grappling at the bottom of a ruck when Senatore bit Daniel, prompting a furious reaction from the Sharks forward.
Senatore was also banned for nine weeks in 2013 for biting South Africa's Eben Etzebeth in a Rugby Championship game.
"Having conducted a detailed review of all the available evidence, including all camera angles and additional evidence, including from the player and submissions from his legal representative, Stephan Weyers, the Judicial Committee upheld the citing under Law 10.4(m) acts contrary to good sportsmanship – biting," a statement read.
"With respect to sanction the Judicial Committee deemed the act of foul play merited a low-end entry point of 12 weeks.
"The Judicial Committee then added two weeks for aggravation as this was the player's second offence for biting. However, taking into account mitigating factors including the player’s good character, his playing record and his disciplinary record the Judicial Committee reduced the suspension to a period of 10 weeks."
Senatore is the second player to be reprimanded this week after captain Agustin Creevy was handed a one-week suspension for a dangerous tackle during the same game.
