Racing and Toulouse maintain winning starts in Top 14
Following their victories in round one, Racing 92 and Toulouse made in two wins from two in the Top 14, while Montpellier lost to Pau.
Racing 92 and Toulouse maintained their winning starts to the Top 14 season with victories over La Rochelle and Agen respectively on Saturday.
Having kicked off their campaign with a 27-22 win at European champions Toulon last weekend, Racing were involved in another tight affair as they picked up a 20-19 win at Stade Yves du Manoir.
The visitors started the stronger but struggled to make the most of their dominance, although Gabriel Lacroix went over to help move them into a 10-6 lead after 33 minutes.
That advantage was short-lived, though, as Camille Chat powered over before the break, with Maxime Machenaud adding the extras to make it 13-10 at half-time.
Racing extended that lead further when - with La Rochelle down to 14 men thanks to a yellow card - Chris Masoe scored his second try in as many matches from a rolling maul.
Machenaud's kick appeared to give Racing a healthy cushion, but three penalties from Zack Holmes saw the visitors come within a whisker of snatching victory, missing two drop-goal attempts before time was up.
Former All Black Corey Flynn notched two tries for Toulouse in their victory at Agen, but it was not such a good day for Montpellier.
Jake White's men kicked off the season with a bonus-point win against Oyonnax but were undone by Pau on Saturday, losing 26-16 to the newly promoted side at Stade du Hameau.
Oyonnax bounced back from their defeat to Montpellier by registering a bonus-point victory of their own - beating Bordeaux-Begles 37-19 at home in a match that goes down as the first to be played on artificial turf in the Top 14.
In the day's remaining clash, Brive picked up a 22-13 win against Stade Francais, who were shorn of a host of forwards through injury and international duty.
