Ogier on course for GB glory as Volkswagen notch 500th stage win
World champion Sebastian Ogier leads the Wales Rally GB by 35.7 seconds, after winning four of the eight stages on Saturday.
Volkswagen were able to celebrate a 500th World Rally Championship stage win as Sebastian Ogier moved closer to victory in the Wales Rally GB.
Three-time world champion Ogier extended his lead over Citroen's Kris Meeke, which stood at 13.5 seconds overnight, to 35.7 secs as he won four of the nine stages on Saturday.
And victory in stage 15 - the last of the day - represented a landmark success for Ogier's team, while keeping the Frenchman firmly on course for an eighth triumph from 13 events in 2015.
"For us it's been a great day," said Ogier. [There were] very tough conditions and so much water.
"Tonight's stages were not so bad though, so much water has washed away the mud."
Ogier was forced to stop in the middle of the road on stage 11, after Thierry Neuville rolled his Hyundai. The championship leader's time was duly adjusted by 31 seconds, meaning he still took the stage victory.
"He [Neuville] was blocking the road so we had to stop for some time," explained Ogier. "The co-driver told us to stop completely. They managed to move the car and we carried on."
Meeke was far from disheartened after ending the day with a healthy 24.7secs advantage over Ogier's team-mate Andreas Mikkelsen.
"It's been another strong day," said Meeke.
"There was never any intention to catch Ogier. We've done what we needed to do."
