Ligue 1 - Lyon 2 Lille 2 - Match Report
Lille take a big step to confirming second place in Ligue 1 following an impressive 2-2 draw at Lyon
Lille picked up an impressive point away to third-placed Lyon to tighten their grip on second place in the Ligue 1 standings. It didn’t take long for the hosts Lyon to open the scoring. Dutch winger Memphis Depay set up Martin Terrier who scored against his former club with a well-taken strike.
Lille striker Nicolas Pépé is widely considered to be the best striker in France this season and has already been linked with a big-money move away from Ligue 1. However, the French-Ivorian attacker spurned several opportunities to level the tie in the first half.
That all changed five minutes after the break as strike partner Loric Remy scored his fifth goal of the season pouncing on an error in the Lyon backline. Defender Jason Denayer failed to clear a cross which bounced off Ferland Mendy and into the path of Remy. The former Chelsea man calmly rounded Lopes in the Lyon goal to level the contest.
Pépé had a hand in his sides second goal on the 68th minute. The Freekick from the Lille striker was not cleared by Léo Dubois leaving Boubakary Soumaré to turn in his first ever Ligue 1 goal. Lyon pushed hard for an equalizer and Dubois made up for his defensive error on the 74th minute firing in a deserved leveller after a failed Youssouf Koné clearance.
