Five Americans make Women's World Cup All-Star team
Hope Solo, Meghan Klingenberg, Julie Johnston, Megan Rapinoe and Carli Lloyd were named to the 23-player Women's World Cup All-Star team Monday.
More than a month has passed since the United States won the Women's World Cup, but the accolades keep on pouring in.
Five Americans were named to the 23-player World Cup All-Star team announced Monday, with goalkeeper Hope Solo, defenders Meghan Klingenberg and Julie Johnston, and midfielders Megan Rapinoe and Carli Lloyd making the cut.
Lloyd claimed the Golden Ball and Silver Boot after notching six goals in the knockout stage, including a hat trick in the first 16 minutes of the U.S. national team's 5-2 win over Japan in the final. Rapinoe, who made the Golden Ball shortlist, scored twice in the Americans' opening victory over Australia and turned in several influential performances on the left flank.
Golden Glove winner Solo, Golden Ball finalist Johnston and Klingenberg also were recognized Monday after playing every minute for a U.S. back line that conceded three goals in seven matches.
