France opened up their U-20 World Cup campaign with a 2-0 victory on Saturday evening. The contest took a turn on just the twelfth minute when Saudi midfielder Faraj Abdullah Al Ghashayan was handed a straight red card after a VAR review for a tackle on Boubakary Soumaré.
France pushed forward for an opener and came close when PSG striker Moussa Diaby saw an effort skip just wide on the 33rd minute. With three minutes left in the first half, Les Bleus took the lead, substitue Youssouf Fofana found the bottom corner from a knockdown header.
Into the second half, and Saudi held on for the vast majority of the half before Amine Gouiri's goal fifteen minutes from time sealed the victory for Bernard Diomède's side.
