Kohli and India rack up records against Bangladesh
Virat Kohli and India enjoyed another record-setting day, the captain playing a typically starring role as they dominated Bangladesh.
India produced another demonstration of their fondness for breaking records as Virat Kohli's double century and a hundred from Wriddhiman Saha helped them declare on 687-6 in the one-off Test with Bangladesh.
The hosts had ended day one in Hyderabad on 356-3, Kohli having already surged into three figures for the 16th time in his career.
And the talismanic India captain pushed his total to 204, his third-highest score in the five-day game. Kohli's performance saw him become the first Test batsman to make a score of 200 or more in four consecutive series.
Saha's unbeaten 106 enabled India to reach 600 for the third consecutive innings - making them the first team to achieve such a feat - and his showing, along with a brisk half-century from Ravindra Jadeja - ensured they recorded their highest total against Bangladesh before Kohli declared.
Bangladesh could not survive the 14 overs before the close without loss, reaching stumps on 41-1.
Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane (82) picked up where they had left off upon the resumption, adding another 100 runs to the total before Taijul Islam (3-156) had the latter caught at short cover - ending the 222-run fourth-wicket stand.
The India skipper typically had no problem finding the boundary, racking up 24 in another imperious display, and successfully reviewed an lbw decision when on 180.
Saha was dealt a huge slice of luck with just four runs to his name when Mushfiqur Rahim twice failed to stump him, and India took advantage of both of those let-offs.
Kohli charged towards 200 as an extra cover drive and an exquisite cut shot brought up boundaries shortly before lunch.
His double century arrived courtesy of a lofted miscue over extra cover, Kohli surpassing Don Bradman and Rahul Dravid, who each reached the milestone in three consecutive series.
Taijul eventually trapped Kohli lbw but he was able to walk off to a standing ovation having broken the record for the most Test runs in a home season, his 1,168 in 15 innings taking him beyond compatriot Virender Sehwag.
His departure did not impact India's dominance as Saha recorded his second Test ton and his highest score in the longest format, advancing down the track to reach three figures by smacking a length delivery for six.
Jadeja was punchy for his unbeaten 60, hitting four boundaries and two maximums in his 78 balls.
Kohli declared with India on their fifth-highest Test total and there was more joy for the hosts as Soumya Sarkar was caught behind off Umesh Yadav after a review.
