Kapil backs Dhoni to stay on as India limited-overs captain
There has been talk of Virat Kohli leading India in all formats, but Kapil Dev sees no reason for MS Dhoni to lose the limited-overs reins.
Kapil Dev believes MS Dhoni should retain the captaincy of India's limited-overs teams, despite Virat Kohli impressing as Test skipper.
Dhoni retired from Test cricket at the end of 2014, with Kohli assuming control of his country in the five-day format.
India have since returned to the summit of the ICC Test rankings and are 3-0 up with one match to complete in a home series against England, in which Kohli has excelled with the bat.
However, iconic former all-rounder Kapil - who took 434 Test wickets for India - believes there is no reason for Kohli to take over the one-day reins just yet.
"I think the answer people should look for is are we ready to ask Dhoni to take a back seat," Kapil is quoted as saying by PTI.
"I think if he is good enough he should carry on.
"When the time will come Dhoni may quit all three formats. But I think at the moment it is very important Dhoni is doing a good job. He has enough experience and he should continue."
Invited to compare India's two leaders, Kapil added: "Kohli is very expressive, while Dhoni is calm and quiet.
"I think it is very difficult to compare because both have different teams and a different attitude."
