Jason Gillespie has revealed he is out of the running for the job of England coach, with reports suggesting fellow Australian Trevor Bayliss is poised to be appointed.

Yorkshire coach Gillespie has long been seen as the leading contender for the position following the departure of Peter Moores earlier this month.

Gillespie - who led Yorkshire to the County Championship title last season - confirmed talks with new director of England cricket Andrew Strauss last week.

But he told Sky Sports News on Monday: "I've spoken to Andrew Strauss and I'm not the preferred candidate. I think it would have been a good job to have, but it's not to be.

"I've got a wonderful job at Yorkshire and the Adelaide Strikers and I'm looking forward to continuing that work."

New South Wales coach Bayliss has previously taken charge of Sri Lanka at international level and was in the running to lead England before Moores' appointment.

Bayliss coached his own country as recently as last year, when he was placed at the helm for a home Twenty20 series against South Africa that took place only days after Australia's players returned from Tests against Pakistan in the United Arab Emirates.
