Hawks' Sefolosha found not guilty on all counts
Thabo Sefolosha could file a civil lawsuit against the NYPD after suffering a broken leg during an April arrest.
A New York jury found Atlanta Hawks forward Thabo Sefolosha not guilty on all three counts against him, potentially opening the door for a lawsuit against the city's police department.
Sefolosha suffered a broken right fibula when he was arrested in April outside a Manhattan nightclub and testified during the trial that the arresting officer repeatedly cursed at him and threatened him.
Prosecutors charged Sefolosha with disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and obstructing governmental administration, but it didn't take much deliberation for the jury to find in Sefolosha's favour.
After meeting for about 30 minutes at the end of the day on Thursday, the jury deliberated for about 30 more minutes on Friday morning before reaching its verdict.
Sefolosha told reporters Friday that he remains undecided on whether to sue the city, but the fact that the 31-year-old missed last year's playoffs and still hasn't been able to return to play for the Hawks certainly could play a factor in the course of action he chooses.
