LeBron James helped the in-form Cleveland Cavaliers rally to beat the Utah Jazz 118-114 in the NBA on Tuesday.

The Cavs trailed 95-86 midway through the final quarter in Cleveland but a season-high 31 points from James saw the hosts to their seventh successive win.

James converted a three-point play after he was fouled as he made a layup, with the Cavs moving to within four of the Jazz.

The four-time NBA MVP's efforts sparked a 10-0 run as the Cavs hit the front 104-98, a lead they never relinquished.

James was supported by Maurice Williams and Kevin Love, who posted 29 and 22 points respectively.

The Jazz had six players with double-digit points, namely Alec Burks and his 24 points.

An injury to Kevin Durant overshadowed the Oklahoma City Thunder's 125-101 win over the Washington Wizards.

Durant left the game at half-time with a strained left hamstring in his return to Washington.

The 2013-14 MVP had 14 points and 10 rebounds in the first half.

Thunder team-mate Russell Westbrook led the charge following Durant's exit, finishing with 22 points, 11 assists and 11 rebounds in a triple-double display.

Marcin Gortat and Ramon Sessions notched 15 points apiece for the Wizards.

The New Orleans Pelicans, meanwhile, finally opened their 2015-16 account with a 120-105 win at home to the Dallas Mavericks.

New Orleans opened the season with six consecutive defeats but claimed their first win thanks to Ryan Anderson's double-double of 25 points and 11 rebounds.

The win did come at a cost, though, with Anthony Davis (17 points) hobbling off at half-time due to a bruised right hip.

In other results, the New York Knicks won 111-109 and condemned the Toronto Raptors to their first home loss of the campaign.

The Charlotte Hornets accounted for the Minnesota Timberwolves 104-95, the Miami Heat were 101-88 winners over the Los Angeles Lakers and the Milwaukee Bucks lost 99-83 to the Boston Celtics.
