Carlos Alcaraz Already Knows His Opponent in the Wimbledon Semifinals
Murcian star Carlos Alcaraz already knows who he could face in the semifinals of Wimbledon 2025, if he manages to defeat Cameron Norrie: it will be American Taylor Fritz, who reached the last four at the All England Club for the first time in his career after a hard-fought win over Russian Karen Khachanov, 6-3, 6-4, 1-6, 7-6(4).
At 27 years old and currently ranked world No. 5, Fritz is enjoying one of the best moments of his career. This victory breaks his quarterfinal ceiling at Wimbledon, where he was eliminated in 2022 by Rafael Nadal in a memorable match. It will be his second Grand Slam semifinal, following his run at the 2024 US Open, where he lost in the final to Jannik Sinner.
Fritz on fire: title wins and an almost flawless grass court run
The American’s performance this grass-court season has been outstanding. He previously won titles in Stuttgart and Eastbourne, and now adds five straight victories at Wimbledon, showing great consistency, especially with his serve. Against Khachanov, he struck 16 aces and hit 47 winners, helping him prevail despite a slip in the third set.

Fritz also overcame some tough challenges along the way: he came back from two sets down and a 1-5 deficit in the opening-set tiebreak against Frenchman Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard, and later survived another five-set battle with Gabriel Diallo. He then defeated Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich and reached the quarterfinals thanks to Jordan Thompson’s injury retirement.
The head-to-head between Alcaraz and Fritz clearly favors the Spaniard, who leads 2-0 with wins in the Miami 2023 quarterfinals and at the 2024 Laver Cup, where the El Palmar native cruised to victory. However, Fritz’s current form makes this potential semifinal one of the most anticipated matches of the tournament.
Meanwhile, from the All England Club, former Wimbledon champion Conchita Martínez praised Alcaraz’s impressive form, describing him as “phenomenal” and a strong favorite to retain his title. Should the Spaniard overcome Norrie, the clash with a red-hot Fritz will be the next big challenge in his quest to defend the crown.
