Djokovic Knocks Out Sinner and Will Try to Stop Carlos Alcaraz’s First Australian Open Title
Novak Djokovic defies age and reaches another historic Australian Open final
Serbia’s Novak Djokovic withstood the pressure from Italy’s Jannik Sinner, relied on his vast experience, and after an epic five-set battle (3-6, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4) lasting four hours and nine minutes, advanced for the 11th time to the Australian Open final, where he will face Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz.
The 24-time Grand Slam champion held firm in the decisive moments and ended a losing streak against Sinner, whom he had lost to in their previous five meetings, once again proving his ability to rise to the occasion on the biggest stages.
With the win, Djokovic became the second player in the Open Era to reach a Grand Slam singles final at age 38 or older, a milestone previously achieved only by Ken Rosewall, who was runner-up at Wimbledon 1974 at 39.
The Australian Open final will be played this Sunday against Carlos Alcaraz, who also reached the title match after a marathon five-hour, 27-minute victory over Germany’s Alexander Zverev (6-4, 7-6(5), 6-7(3), 6-7(4), 7-5).
The moment Novak Djokovic congratulates Carlos Alcaraz
The Australian Open cameras captured a unique moment. One Grand Slam champion recognizing another, as Novak Djokovic walked over to Carlos Alcaraz to congratulate him after a marathon match that secured his place in the Australian Open final.
Carlos Alcaraz will play in the Australian Open final for the first time after winning an epic five-hour, 27-minute match against Alexander Zverev. The German mounted a comeback from two sets down, once again testing Alcaraz’s physical endurance, mental toughness, and competitive spirit on the Grand Slam stage.
