Novak Djokovic Steps Away From the PTPA, Closing a Defining Chapter in Tennis Politics
After years at the center of tennis’ player movement, Novak Djokovic has drawn a clear line and stepped away from a project he helped create.
Djokovic Ends His Time With the PTPA
Novak Djokovic has officially brought his involvement with the Professional Tennis Players Association (PTPA) to an end. The organization, which represents the top 500 players across the ATP and WTA, was founded in 2021 by Djokovic alongside Vasek Pospisil as an alternative voice for players within the sport’s power structure.
Now, the former world No. 1 has chosen to step away from the union he helped establish.
A Public Statement, A Clear Decision
The Serbian star confirmed his decision through a statement shared on social media, where he explained the reasoning behind his exit. “After careful consideration, I’ve decided to fully withdraw from the PTPA,” Djokovic wrote, pointing to ongoing concerns over transparency, governance and the way his voice and image were represented within the organization.
While measured in tone, the message left little room for ambiguity.

Values No Longer Aligned
Djokovic acknowledged the original vision behind the PTPA, emphasizing the intent to give players a stronger and more independent platform. However, he admitted that the project no longer reflects his personal principles.
“I’m proud of the vision Vasek and I shared when we founded the PTPA,” he stated, “but it has become clear that my values and approach are no longer aligned with the organization’s current direction.”
The words mark a notable shift for a player who has long been at the forefront of player advocacy.
Focus Shifts Back to Tennis and Beyond
In closing, Djokovic made it clear that his priorities are now elsewhere. “I will continue focusing on my tennis, my family, and contributing to the sport in ways that reflect my principles and integrity,” he said, before wishing players and stakeholders within the PTPA the best moving forward.
For one of the most influential figures in modern tennis, the decision signals the end of a significant chapter — and a return to a more personal path, both on and off the court.
