Navarro stuns Jovic with hard-fought victory in Strasbourg last 16
Emma Navarro overcame a second-set wobble, and a stunning third set saw her past Iva Jovic and into the Strasbourg Open quarter-finals.
Emma Navarro held on to earn a shock win over Iva Jovic in three sets to reach the quarter-finals of the Strasbourg Open.
Navarro found her edge in the third set against her compatriot, coming out on top with a 6-4 4-6 6-1 victory in two hours and 17 minutes.
Jovic failed to convert two break points in the opening game but did get the advantage on Navarro鈥檚 next service game to take a 2-1 lead.
However, Navarro then reeled off the next four games to take control, and though she then failed to convert her first three set points, she made no such mistake on her fourth.
The start of the second set followed a similar pattern, but after Jovic got a break in the third game, the pair traded them for the next four. A three-game streak for the number five seed then forced the decider.
However, Navarro won each of the first five in the third set, and though Jovic was able to get on the board and avoid a bagel, Navarro served out the match at her first attempt.
There was another shock earlier in the day, too, with the number four seed, Clara Tauson, also crashing out in straight sets.
Jaqueline Cristian is now 4-3 against Tauson after her 6-1 7-5 victory to reach her second quarter-final of 2026.
Data Debrief: Navarro hits century
Navarro has advanced to her first quarter-final since Adelaide in January, and in doing so has racked up her 100th win on the WTA Tour.
She has also notched her first top 20 win since defeating Iga Swiatek at Beijing 2025, and she will be hopeful she can build on this form when she faces Zhang Shuai.
