French Open: Sinner starts title quest with comfortable win over Tabur
Jannik Sinner registered his 30th consecutive victory as the top seed wasted little time in getting past Clement Tabur at the French Open.
Jannik Sinner's pursuit of the Career Grand Slam started with a win as he cruised past Clement Tabur in his first-round match at the French Open on Tuesday.
Sinner, who was beaten by Carlos Alcaraz in last year's final at Roland-Garros, produced a statement of his intentions here as he won 6-1 6-3 6-4 in just over two hours.
The top seed wasted little time in stamping his authority over French wildcard Tabur as he broke in the first game of the match, though he did squander the chance to go 3-0 up.
However, Sinner reeled off the final four games of the first set with the minimum of fuss, and he continued his dominance into the second with yet another early break of serve.
Tabur showed some fight as he looked to try and get the better of Sinner's serve, but the Italian held firm to edge closer to reaching the second round of the competition.
And a break in the third game of the third set was all he needed to book a date with Juan Manuel Cerundolo, sealing his progression at the second time of asking on serve.
"I'm very happy to be back here," Sinner said. "It's a very special place and I have great memories overall.
"First-round matches are never easy, but it's even more special to start the tournament during a night session, so thank you all for staying out."
Data Debrief: The streak continues
After sweeping all five of this season's ATP Masters 1000 titles, and becoming the second, and youngest, man after Novak Djokovic to complete the Career Golden Masters, Sinner has now won each of his last 30 matches.
And with Alcaraz not in Paris through injury, Sinner will fancy his chances here. His win took him to 38 victories in grand slam matches as the world number one, surpassing Andre Agassi (37) for the outright fifth-most since the inaugural ATP Tour season in 1990.
In addition, Sinner has now claimed more wins consecutively on clay at ATP level in 2026 (18) than any player has claimed in total on the surface this season.
And since 1990, Sinner (92.3%, 72-6) holds the best combined win rate at grand slam and ATP Masters 1000 events as the world number one, with Djokovic (87.7%) next-best in that span.
