Alcaraz splits with long-time coach Ferrero
Having won six grand slam titles under his tutelage, Carlos Alcaraz has split with coach Juan Carlos Ferrero.
Carlos Alcaraz has surprisingly split with his coach Juan Carlos Ferrero after seven years working together.
Alcaraz has worked with Ferrero – who won the French Open as a player in 2003 – since he was a teenager, winning all of his 24 career titles alongside him.
That includes six grand slam triumphs, two of which came this year at Roland-Garros and the US Open, and eight ATP 1000 crowns.
Alcaraz was just 15 when he started working with Ferrero, with their partnership ending after he secured the year-end number one spot for the second time (also 2022).
No reason was given for the spilt as Alcaraz announced the news via a statement on social media, which read: "Thank you for turning childhood dreams into realities.
"We started this journey when I was barely a kid, and throughout all this time you've accompanied me on an incredible journey, on and off the court.
"I've enjoyed every step of it so much with you. There are so many memories that come to mind that picking just one wouldn't be fair.
"You've helped me grow as an athlete, but above all as a person. And something I value so much: I've enjoyed the process. That's what I'll hold onto, the path we've travelled together.
"Now times of change are coming for both of us, new adventures and new projects. But I'm certain we'll face them the right way, giving our best, as we've always done.
"I wish you all the best from the heart in everything that comes. I'm left with the peace of mind of knowing we didn't hold anything back, that we gave everything we had for each other."
Ferrero said: "I wish I could have continued. I am convinced that good memories and good people always find a way to cross paths again."
Next year, Alcaraz will aim to secure the career grand slam at the Australian Open.
Should he triumph at the year's first slam at Melbourne Park, he will surpass Rafael Nadal (24 in 2010) as the youngest man to win all four of tennis' grand slam titles.
