Carlo Ancelotti Casts Doubt on Vinícius’ Participation in the 2026 World Cup
Vinicius’ form is raising concern in Brazil, and Carlo Ancelotti has delivered a warning that shakes Madrid… and the player himself.
A Real Madrid in crisis… and a Vinicius far from his best
Real Madrid is going through its worst stretch of the season: three straight draws, the loss of the league lead, and a level of play that has triggered alarm bells. Amid the team’s collective slump, one of the biggest concerns is Vinicius Junior, whose performances remain far from the standard he set in recent years.
Even though he looked more involved against Girona, his impact is nowhere near that of the player who once terrified defenses around the world. And now, his situation goes beyond Madrid: it could directly affect his place in the 2026 World Cup.
Ancelotti makes it clear: only those at 100% will go
In an interview with TV Record, Carlo Ancelotti, now Brazil’s national team coach and formerly Vinicius’ manager at Real Madrid, delivered a blunt warning that quickly made headlines.
“He has to be at 100%. There are many very good players; I need to choose those who are at 100%. It’s not just Neymar — it could be Vinicius too. If Vinicius is at 90%, I will call someone who is at 100%.”
A direct, uncompromising message: talent alone isn’t enough to earn a World Cup spot. Brazil’s attacking depth is enormous, and Ancelotti is not willing to grant exceptions. His remark makes it clear that Vinicius is under close scrutiny, and his physical and competitive condition will determine everything.
The warning comes at a delicate time for the Madrid winger, who is struggling to regain his explosiveness, confidence, and influence on matches.

Neymar gets a warning too
The interview also included another notable statement: Ancelotti has not ruled out Neymar for the World Cup, despite not calling him up yet and his long injury spells.
“Neymar had bad luck. He couldn’t get in shape because of injuries. He’s on the same level as everyone else, considering the extraordinary talent he has already shown.”
This suggests Neymar still has a chance — but under the same strict standard as Vinicius: without full fitness, there will be no World Cup.
A massive challenge ahead for Vinicius
Ancelotti’s message comes at a crucial moment: Real Madrid is dealing with tactical issues, a confidence dip, and lack of clarity in the final third. And Vinicius, one of the pillars of the project, must rediscover his best form if he wants to maintain his status both at the club and with the national team.
Brazil doesn’t wait for anyone. And Ancelotti has already said it plainly: the 2026 World Cup will only take players who are truly at 100%.
