The 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) is entering its decisive stage. On Wednesday, August 12, Cameroon and Morocco will battle for a place in the grand final at Moulay El Hassan Stadium in Rabat, in a semifinal packed with history, pressure and the dream of being crowned champions of Africa.
The Atlas Lionesses reached the semifinals after a 2-1 victory over South Africa, securing their third consecutive appearance in the WAFCON final four. Led by Jorge Vilda, Morocco are aiming to reach the final once again and keep their dream of lifting the trophy alive in front of their home fans.
Morocco know what it takes to get past this stage. They have won both of their previous WAFCON semifinals, with each victory coming after a 1-1 draw and a penalty shootout. The team has also secured its place at the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Up front, Sakina Ouzraoui will be one of Morocco’s key attacking threats, while Hanane Aït El Haj enters the semifinal as one of the tournament’s most productive players, with one goal and four assists.
The Indomitable Lionesses head into the semifinal with confidence after a 1-0 quarterfinal victory over Nigeria, a result that sent them into their 11th WAFCON semifinal in tournament history.
Myriam Maéva Nyadjou scored the decisive goal against the defending champions and will be one of the biggest threats to Morocco’s defense. Cameroon have also secured their spot at the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
The challenge will be overcoming a difficult statistic: Cameroon have never won a WAFCON semifinal played against the host nation. Nevertheless, their extensive experience at this stage makes them one of the toughest opponents Morocco could face.
Everything is set in Rabat. Morocco will look to capitalize on home advantage, while Cameroon aim to return to the African final. By the end of the night, the 2026 WAFCON will have its first finalist.
