Marquinhos Urges Ancelotti to Follow Luis Enrique's Team-First Approach
Marquinhos, fresh off a historic Champions League win with PSG, advised Carlo Ancelotti to embrace a team-oriented philosophy similar to Luis Enrique's success at the French club.
“Putting the Team First Is the Key”
Marquinhos, standout defender for Paris Saint-Germain, addressed the media in São Paulo on Tuesday, ahead of Brazil’s World Cup qualifier against Ecuador. The center-back took the opportunity to share some advice with new national team coach Carlo Ancelotti: emulate the collective spirit that brought PSG its first-ever Champions League title under Luis Enrique.
"The key is working for the team, like we did in Paris. Luis Enrique managed to overcome the departure of Kylian Mbappé and build a competitive group with what he had,” said the Brazilian defender. In his view, success isn’t about star power alone but about team cohesion: “Ancelotti must analyze the talent he has and channel it toward the group’s success.”
Full Trust in Brazil’s New Manager
Marquinhos also spoke highly of his initial impressions of Ancelotti, praising the coach’s clarity and tactical intelligence. “I spoke with him, and the impression he left was excellent. He knows exactly what he wants and communicates it clearly,” he stated.
He believes Ancelotti is the right choice to help Brazil bounce back from recent struggles. “We’re in a transition period, but with his experience, I’m confident we’ll improve with every match until we reach the level we aim for.”
The center-back added that the coach brings calm and structure to the squad: “He’ll build a comfortable environment where we can execute his vision of the game.”
Brazil will face Ecuador on Thursday in Guayaquil, followed by a home match against Paraguay in São Paulo. The Seleção sits fourth in the South American qualifiers with 21 points, trailing group leaders Argentina, who have already secured their World Cup ticket. Venezuela, with 15 points, currently occupies the intercontinental playoff spot.
Marquinhos remains optimistic: “A collective mindset will make us stronger. With that focus and Ancelotti’s leadership, we can become the Brazil the world expects again.”
