Trouble for Jude Bellingham? Tuchel could redefine his role with England
Tuchel’s new England is starting to take shape — and it raises an unexpected question: will Jude Bellingham remain untouchable with the Three Lions?
Competition heats up in England
Jude Bellingham — a key figure for Real Madrid and a natural leader for England — faces a moment of uncertainty.
Thomas Tuchel’s arrival as England manager has brought new systems and new opportunities, and one of the biggest beneficiaries is Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers, who has impressed in recent matches for the Three Lions.
In the 3–0 win over Wales, Tuchel deployed Rogers in the No. 10 role usually occupied by Bellingham, and the midfielder responded with composure, vision, and attacking influence. British outlets, including the BBC, are already describing it as “a genuine competition” for that position.
Tuchel sets his tone
Before the Wembley friendly, the German coach sent a clear message:
“They’ll only come back if it’s for the good of the group. The team is what wins titles.”
It was a warning — without naming names — directed at stars like Bellingham, Phil Foden, and Jack Grealish, all absent through injury or rest. Yet England, without them, didn’t just win — they convinced.
Tuchel wants a more collective, less individual-driven England, and Rogers’ intensity fits perfectly into that vision.
A new contender in midfield
At 23, Morgan Rogers is enjoying the best form of his career. After shining in the 5–0 win against Serbia in September, he’s now expected to start again against Latvia in Riga as part of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
His chemistry with the forwards and work rate in defense may keep him in the lineup — forcing Bellingham to fight for his spot once more.
Despite the competition, the two share mutual admiration.
“Bellingham is a leader and an example to everyone,” said Rogers, who affectionately calls the Madrid star “my little big brother,” recalling their days in England’s youth teams.
A challenge for Madrid’s “untouchable”
Though Bellingham remains an undisputed star at Real Madrid and a locker-room leader for England, the internal competition has never been stronger.
Tuchel values his leadership — but has made it clear that no one’s place is guaranteed.
With England sitting atop their World Cup qualifying group with five wins in five games, Tuchel’s new project is working.
And while the spotlight remains on Bellingham, the coach’s message couldn’t be clearer:
“No one is bigger than the team.”
