Deschamps Downplays Kylian Mbappé’s Injury: “It’s Nothing Serious”
The French coach spoke clearly about Kylian Mbappé’s fitness and eased concerns within the France camp.
Deschamps Eases the Concerns
Worries about Kylian Mbappé’s physical condition seem to have faded. In a press conference ahead of France’s clash with Azerbaijan, head coach Didier Deschamps made it clear that the Real Madrid forward’s ankle issue is not serious.
“It’s nothing serious. It’s more about how sensitive his ankle feels. He’s followed the planned schedule and should train with the group this afternoon. If everything goes well, he’ll be available tomorrow,” said Deschamps, in comments reported by L’Équipe.
The coach stressed there’s no reason for concern within the staff, confirming that Mbappé has responded well to treatment. His participation against Azerbaijan will depend solely on how he feels after the final training session.
Mbappé Set to Return
The Les Bleus captain trained separately for part of the week, but all signs point to a smooth return. Still, Deschamps avoided confirming whether he would start: “There will be eleven starters tomorrow, but I won’t tell you who. It all depends on this afternoon’s session,” he said cautiously.
The French coach also hinted at possible rotations given the tight schedule. “I won’t always use the same eleven. There are only three days between matches,” he explained.
France Can Breathe Again
Deschamps’ comments have put an end to rumors of a potential setback for Mbappé’s ankle — an area that had troubled him late in his stint with Real Madrid. France can breathe easy: their captain and biggest star will be available for the upcoming qualifiers.
“Mbappé is fine and ready to play if everything goes as planned,” concluded Deschamps, offering the reassurance French fans needed ahead of another international test.
