A Champion's Visit: Ilia Topuria Motivates the National Spanish Team Ahead of Their Match Against Georgia
UFC champion Ilia Topuria visited the Spanish national team training session in Las Rozas to show his support ahead of the 2026 World Cup qualifier.
The champion who shook Las Rozas
An unexpected visit broke the routine at the Ciudad del Fútbol in Las Rozas. Ilia Topuria, the current UFC lightweight world champion, appeared at the Spanish national team’s training session, capturing everyone’s attention. With a smile and the humility he is known for, “El Matador” greeted the players, coaching staff, and RFEF president Rafael Louzán individually.
The Spanish-Georgian fighter, proudly representing both countries, was warmly received by the internationals preparing for their match against Georgia for the 2026 World Cup. “With faith and determination, everything is achievable. I wish you the best of luck for these matches because your success is everyone’s success,” Topuria said, earning applause from the group.
From octagon champion to motivator of champions
Topuria didn’t just bring his championship belt—he brought a dose of motivation that energized Luis de la Fuente’s squad. The fighter watched part of the training from the sidelines, accompanied by Louzán, who highlighted the visit as an example of inspiration and discipline.
At the end of the session, La Roja surprised Topuria with a personalized jersey signed by the entire team. The champion, visibly moved, posed with the red jersey and the Spanish crest, creating a moment that quickly went viral on social media.
Balancing passion for Spain and love for Georgia
Although Topuria was born in Germany and grew up in Georgia, his story is deeply tied to Spain—the country where he trained as a fighter and built his path to global stardom. That’s why his visit to La Roja held special significance: the fighter supported the Spanish squad wholeheartedly, even knowing his opponent would be the country where he grew up.
Spain ready for the 2026 World Cup challenge
Meanwhile, the Spanish national team is finalizing preparations before traveling to Elche, after delaying their departure due to heavy rain. Luis de la Fuente’s squad leads their group with six points and will aim to maintain a perfect record against Georgia this Saturday at Estadio Manuel Martínez Valero.
Spain, will also face Bulgaria on Tuesday, October 14, in Valladolid. With a locker room full of energy and an inspiring visit from Topuria, La Roja is ready to show that, as Topuria said, faith and determination are the true driving forces of champions.
