A record in Luis de la Fuente's sights
Luis de la Fuente takes on a new challenge starting this Monday after renewing his contract until 2032. And that is to become the second coach with the longest tenure in the position, in case he fulfills his entire contract, surpassed only by the Hungarian Ladislao Kubala, who was in charge for almost eleven years.
De la Fuente (Haro, 1961) took the reins of the national team on December 12, 2022, so if he remains in the position until 2032, it will have been 10 years.
The only one who would surpass him would be Kubala, who after wearing the Spain jersey on 19 occasions following his naturalization (1953-1961), was their head coach from October 15, 1969, to June 18, 1980, which amounts to ten years, eight months, and three days.
