Greece Looks to Defend the Top Spot

UEFA Nations League action continues this Thursday, October 1, with one of the most intriguing matches of Matchday 3. Greece hosts the Netherlands at Toumba Stadium in a matchup between two national teams that remain unbeaten in this edition of the tournament.

The Greek side enters the match at the top of Group A2 after pulling off one of the biggest surprises of the previous matchday with a narrow victory over Germany. That result allowed Greece to remain unbeaten and enter this match with an opportunity to strengthen its position at the top of the group.

It will now face a Netherlands side that has also made a strong start to the competition. The Oranje has recorded one win and one draw in its first two matches and will look to collect three points on the road to improve its position in the group.

Netherlands Enters With Strong Numbers

Recent statistics point to a matchup between two teams with plenty of attacking potential. Over its last 14 matches, Greece has averaged 1.71 goals scored and 1.21 goals conceded per game. It has also won nine of those matches and kept six clean sheets.

The Netherlands, meanwhile, has averaged 2.36 goals scored over its last 36 matches while conceding just one goal per game. The Dutch side has also recorded 31 matches in which it either won or drew during that span.

In terms of attacking production, the Dutch also hold a slight statistical advantage, averaging 15.97 shots and 5.78 shots on target, while Greece averages 14.86 shots and 5.36 attempts on target.

Group A2 Enters an Important Matchday

With Greece sitting at the top of the group following its victory over Germany, the match against the Netherlands represents an important opportunity to maintain the lead and extend its strong start.

The Oranje, meanwhile, will look to end the hosts' unbeaten run and secure a victory that could reshape the battle for the top positions in Group A2.

The match will take place this Thursday at Toumba Stadium and will kick off at 2:45 PM ET / 11:45 AM PT.
