Cristiano Ronaldo Could Pay Portugal Fine in ¡Just 39 Seconds!
The Al Nassr star faces disciplinary action from Portugal’s national team, but his multimillion-dollar earnings make the financial penalty virtually insignificant.
Cristiano Ronaldo was handed a 30-day suspension and a $286 fine for leaving Portugal’s national team camp without authorization. However, the financial penalty pales in comparison to the earnings of the Al Nassr forward, who would need just 39 seconds to earn enough to cover the fine. The sporting sanction, meanwhile, may not prevent him from playing in Portugal’s upcoming international fixtures.
CRISTIANO RONALDO’S FINE IS MINIMAL COMPARED TO HIS SALARY
The Disciplinary Council of the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) fined Cristiano Ronaldo 255 euros, equivalent to approximately $286, and imposed a 30-day suspension. The decision came after the Portuguese captain left the team’s training camp in Copenhagen before the match against Denmark.
The forward earns a base salary of approximately $233 million per year at Al Nassr, the Saudi Arabian club. That figure does not include potential additional income from sponsorships and other commercial agreements.
Based on that salary, the $286 fine represents just 0.00012% of his estimated annual earnings. As a result, the financial impact of the penalty is practically insignificant for the 41-year-old footballer, whose career includes five Ballon d’Or awards and titles with clubs such as Real Madrid and Manchester United.
WHY DID PORTUGAL SANCTION CRISTIANO RONALDO?
The incident followed a disagreement between Ronaldo and head coach Jorge Jesus over the forward’s role in the team. The Portuguese star did not play against Norway despite warming up and subsequently left the training camp before the match against Denmark.
The regulations allowed for a longer suspension. However, mitigating circumstances, the player’s career achievements and his acknowledgment of responsibility helped reduce the penalty to 30 days.
Ronaldo also apologized for leaving his teammates and expressed his willingness to continue representing Portugal. Because he had already served part of the suspension, the ban could expire before Portugal’s November matches against Denmark and Wales.
