Would Cristiano Ronaldo Play in Argentina? The Portuguese Star Doesn’t Rule It Out
With the UEFA Nations League final on the horizon, Cristiano Ronaldo is getting ready to face a powerful Spain side in a match that could mark his farewell to the biggest stages of international football. At 40 years old, the Portuguese legend still carries the same hunger and dreams of lifting another trophy with his national team, with whom he already won Euro 2016 and the inaugural edition of this tournament in 2019.
During the pre-match press conference, Cristiano covered a wide range of topics — from the rise of Lamine Yamal with Spain to his own uncertain future. The Al Nassr forward urged the media to allow the Barcelona youngster to grow without pressure: "He's a very talented kid in the right environment, but we need to let him grow calmly."

One of the most striking moments came when he was asked about the possibility of teaming up with Lionel Messi at the upcoming Club World Cup. With a smile, Ronaldo joked in an Argentine accent: “Bueno, boludo…”, sparking laughter among journalists. He then clarified his affection for the South American country: “My partner is Argentinian, I love her, and I have a very special fondness for Argentina. I’ve never been, but I’d love to go someday.”
While he admitted it would be “very difficult” to play for an Argentinian club, he didn’t close the door completely: “Never say never. I’ve received offers, but right now, I prefer to focus on the present.”
On the Club World Cup specifically, Cristiano was clear: “I’m not going. That’s already decided. There have been talks, but I’m with the national team now and focused on this match.”
On a personal note, Cristiano shared that his son admires Yamal, and he praised Luis de la Fuente’s work with Spain: “You can see the discipline and commitment. It will be a tough match, but we’re ready.”
Far from announcing retirement, the Portuguese star admitted he’s nearing the end of his career but still wants to enjoy the moment: “I know I don’t have many years left, but as long as I have strength and motivation, I’ll keep playing. Tomorrow could be a special day.”
Now, Cristiano Ronaldo faces a final that could add another glorious chapter to his career. And who knows — perhaps in the future he’ll surprise the world with one last adventure… maybe in Argentina.
