Champions League Standings: Real Madrid and PSG Stumble, Barça Fall Out of the Top 8, and Bayern Take Control
Shocks, setbacks, and goals everywhere. Matchday 4 of the Champions League reshaped the standings: Barcelona lose ground, Bayern Munich look unstoppable, and several giants are starting to fade.
A Night of Contrasts
Matchday 4 of the Champions League was a rollercoaster of emotions. Between shocks and confirmations, FC Barcelona provided one of the night’s biggest surprises with a 3-3 draw against Club Brugge, a side that showed pride but little firepower to truly threaten a European heavyweight. The result drops the Catalans to 11th place with seven points, outside the direct qualification zone for the Round of 16.
Meanwhile, Bayern Munich reaffirmed their dominance with yet another win — making it 12 points out of 12 — and strengthened their status as the tournament’s top contender. Alongside them, Arsenal and Inter Milan also maintained a flawless run, keeping firm at the summit of the table.
Real Madrid and PSG Lose Ground
Two of the pre-tournament favorites, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain, lost momentum this week after suffering defeats that raised questions about their consistency. Both now sit on nine points — level with Liverpool, Newcastle, and Galatasaray — who all took advantage of the chaos to climb and close in on the leaders.
Just above them, Manchester City (10 points) and Tottenham (8) remain firmly in contention for the knockout stages. But the margin for error is shrinking fast — and any slip-up in the final rounds could prove costly.
Stuck at the Bottom
At the other end of the table, Ajax and Benfica remain winless after four matches, the only two sides yet to earn a single point. Both clubs are rooted to the bottom and appear destined for an early exit.
With four matchdays gone, this year’s Champions League has made one thing clear: there’s no room for mistakes. Bayern Munich are in command, Barcelona are under pressure, and giants like PSG and Real Madrid must react quickly — or risk falling behind before the knockout stage even begins.
